Prove It is the first single off my forthcoming solo album. It is an homage to my favorite songs from the 50s and 60s, combining pop and soul into a neat little package that's sealed with a glittery bow.
I had originally written a different song for the Track #2 slot on the album, but it just didn't feel quite right. On a whim, I took my favorite part from the first song and re-imagined it with a different rhythm structure that brought to mind days of beehives, bobby socks, and the twist. That became the bridge of Prove It, and the rest just seemed to fall into place...
lyrics
i know you, mister
you’re just my type
blow like a twister
you goin’ cut like a knife
heads up
pour me a double,
you shoot me the breeze
you came looking for trouble
you came looking for me
well
if you want me
oo you better prove it
you better prove it, baby
if you want me
oo you better prove it
you better prove it to me
woah
don’t call me violet, no
shy ain’t my type
i need a riot, baby
light up my night
let’s go
can’t love for hire
you can’t love for free
you can’t, can’t start a fire
if you can’t take the heat
well
if you want me
oo you better prove it
you better prove it, baby
if you want me
oo you better prove it
you better prove it to me
oo oo, you better prove it, prove it
oo oo, you’re gonna lose it, lose it
oo oo, you better prove it, prove it
oo oo, you’re gonna lose it, lose it
and oh
i’ll be your decoration
you can be my celebration
oh
hand in my hesitation
baby blue reputation
any old time
you better prove it
oo oo you’re gonna lose it
i know you mister
you’re just my scene
i’d like to twist ya
if you know what I mean
and you do
just what you want to
with what you see
you came looking for trouble
you came looking for me
well
if you want me
oo you better prove it
you better prove it, baby
if you want me
oo you better prove it
you better prove it, baby
if you want me
oo you better prove it
you’re gonna lose it, baby
if you want me
oo you better prove it
you better prove it to me
i know you, mister
gimme a kiss
